Book Review of Gregg Braden's Fractal Time
The Secrets of 2012 and the New World Age
There is no shortage of books and ideas on what the year 2012 may hold. The winter solstice of the year 2012 is the time in which the long count Mayan calendar comes to an end. There has been much in the way of speculation that this means everything from annihilation of earth or the human race, to a new world of enlightenment.
Gregg Braden, with his latest book Fractal Time; The Secrets of 2012 and the New World Age, draws together ancient teachings and prophecy from the Mayan, Hopi, Vedas, Torah, and the bible code to mesh with what geological record and quantum physics has to say about the future.
Time as a Cyclic Pattern
Part of the make-up for a fractal, is the idea of a pattern repeating within a pattern. This is how Gregg Braden explains the cyclic patterns of time experienced on the earth. Basing it on two major cycles; the 5,125 year cycle that it takes the earth to once again cross the galactic equator of the Milky Way, and the 25,625 year cycle that represents the progression of the equinoxes, Braden paints a picture of the possible changes life on this planet faces.
Using the Time Code Calculator found on his website, he uses dates from the past to predict when those conditions will reappear. He is quick to point out that only the conditions can be recreated, and the outcomes rely on the choices made in response to those conditions.
Gregg Braden puts forth that the earth crossing the galactic center on December 21, 2012 completes both the 5, 125 and 25,625 year cycles that the end of the long count Mayan calendar points to. He goes on to say that these ancient societies gave clues to what will be experienced during this time.
Contrary to popular belief, the solstice on 2012 does not represent an event as much as it does a process. The solstice on 2012 just marks the peak of the event, and Braden explains that the world has been experiencing the process since 1980 and will continue to do so until 2016. Braden links the instability and chaos in the world to this process, but insists that the choices made are entirely free will. In other words, humans have little control over the environment, but complete control over response to it.
Apocalypse or Eden in 2012
According to Braden, the conditions are ripe to experience either great cataclysmic events or a truly enlightened Eden on earth, depending upon the collective human consciousness.
Although he mentions the possibility of heavy sun spot activity, the possibility of pole reversals, as well as a number of other geological scenarios, he also states that this time frame gives society the choice point to change potential outcomes. In other words, if what humans are doing is not working, then a change of path is possible.
Change in Magnetic Field Forcing Climate Change
Drawing on scientific research, Braden says that the changes experienced in the earth’s magnetic field, is what is driving climate change. According to his data, global warming, melting of the polar ice caps, and rises in the ocean are part of this transition, and will return to normal once the earth passes away from the galactic equator.
2012 as a Choice Point
Braden is clear that current conditions offer a choice point in changing how humans react to threat, scarcity and change. He goes on to talk about the Hopi prophecy rock that shows two lines, one leading to peace and one living in scarcity and disconnectedness. The addition of a third line connecting the two paths is seen as that choice point when humans can change their present course.
Braden brings up the work done by the Global Coherence Initiative that has been measuring the changes in the earth’s magnetic field linked to changes in emotional states of its human inhabitants. Drawing upon famous experiments, quantum physics, and observations during events such as 9/11, they have found that not only does the earth’s magnetic field have an impact on life on the planet, but the magnetic field produced from the heart center also impacts the magnetic field of the earth. In this way, he contends that the way to promote a smooth ride through these major changes is to develop coherence through heart presence.
Fractal Time Book Review
In line with his initial work, Awakening to Zero Point, and more recently The Divine Matrix, Gregg Braden offers up an insightful and well-researched book on what is already a popular topic. The book avoids the apocalyptic stance that so many authors have taken, and at the same time does not fall into the groundless opinions that are filling the new age movement.
Instead, Braden offers insight into a number of ancient prophecies, and combines them with the world of quantum physics and geological record. Overall the book is insightful and offers valuable tools for a changing and challenged world.
