In her book,The Other Side and Back: A Psychic's Guide to Our World and Beyond (New York: Signet, 2000), Sylvia Browne imparts a very consoling message: man is guided in his journey through life by messengers from the other side.
Spirit Guides
Spirit guides conceive and review human blueprints. They agree to be man's constant and vigilant companions through all lifetimes on earth. Because all spirit guides have spent at least one incarnated life on earth, they can empathize with human dilemmas. In their guidance, they do not interfere with the choices man makes nor do they deprive man of free will. They do suggest alternatives and provide warnings (the gut feelings man has that something is not quite right). They communicate with man through his subconscious mind—in dreams, instincts, insight and impulse. They are dedicated to provide man with help from the other side.
Angels
Unlike spirit guides, angels have never incarnated as human lives although they can materialize briefly in human form to help man in his darkest hours. They are direct messengers from God, making brief trips to the 3rd dimension for man's benefit. Their mission is to help him through his most treacherous trials and to celebrate his finest triumphs. While spirit guides take on male or female forms, angels are naturally androgynous with identical features. Never having been incarnated, they are light and fluid, capable of moving between dimensions at the speed of light. Their communication is non-verbal and direct—infused knowledge transmitted to the mind. They are help from the other side that man can miss if he is not in the right frame of mind.
Departed Loved Ones
Deaprted loved ones provide guidance from the other side. They seize every opportunity that surfaces to communicate with man. One popular method is thought. When man thinks of his departed loved ones, he is giving them the opportunity to speak with him. Most departerd loved ones want to communicate with man; they wish to tell man they are fine and that they are still with him, more alive than ever. It is good practice to think often of those who have passed on. Some cultures, like Mexico and China, spend entire days in remembrance of the dead. Departed loved ones can also surface in dreams, especially when man directs questions to them before he falls asleep.
Man is never alone. Guidance comes to him from the other side. However, he must develop the "silence within" to hear these messages. Often he misses help from the other side because he is swallowed up by the demands of the visible world.
