One "end times" scenario that bears consideration is the eruption of uncontrollable infectious diseases, caused by pharmaceutical waste.

Media platforms are inundated with 2012 end times prophecies ranging from comet impact, supervolcanic eruptions to World War III.

One "end times" scenario that bears consideration is the eruption of uncontrollable infectious diseases. The questions that surround this issue concern the prophecy inscribed in Revelations and the role pharmaceutical wastes play in the creation of this disaster.

Revelations and Pharmaceutical Waste

In Healing Codes of the Biological Apocalypse (Sandpoint, idaho:Tetrahedron Publishing Group, 2001), Len Horowitz claims that Revelation 18 points to the eruption of a pharmaceutical-based biological disaster when it refers to the End Times as a period of deception. This is a period in which "the Kings and wealthiest of men of all nations are deceived by men who practiced 'sorcery.' '"

The earliest equivalent for the word 'sorcery' in Revelation is the Greek root word 'pharmacopoeia' or pharmacy. This 'sorcery' is also connected with the beast which Horowitz claims is , in Greek lexicon, 'therion,' meaning 'a little beast or animal.' Horowirz suggests that the danger prophesized in Revelation is the appearance of virulent, infectious diseases caused by microbes like bacteria and viruses.

According to Horowitz, Revelation's prediction that deadly "red wine" will flow "full of impurities into the rivers and streams" infecting millions at the time of the great plagues is becoming a reality in the pollution of the water systems caused by pharmaceutical waste; this situation has resulted in the evolution of bacterial resistance and superbugs.

Bacterial Resistance and Superbugs

Over the past 60 years, the pharmaceutical industry has poured several million tons of nonbiodegradable antibiotics into the environment. Antibiotics laden effluent from poultry farms and human waste treatment facilities have created a veritable sea of pharmaceutical wastes.

One effect produced by this situation is the stimulation of evolutionary resistance in various bacteria. Experts claim that bacterial resistance will make possible infectious disease epidemics more potent and deadly than any have been experienced in human history.

Since the introduction of antibiotics in the 1940s, the staphylococcus aureus bacteria have become resistant to all known antibiotics. This bacteria can cause severe blood infections, toxic syndrome, even death. According to Stephen Harrod Buhner in The Lost Language of Plants (Vermont, Chelsea Green Publishing, 2002), resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria are making a comeback into modern society.

One example is tuberculosis (TB.) Approximately 80% of infected cases of tuberculosis show signs of antibiotic resistance. An estimated 2%, or about 40 million worldwide, are believed to have the untreatable, resistant strain of tuberculosis. (125).

Body Ecology and Immunity

Buhner suggests that uncontrollable infectious diseases are caused by an unnecessary "war on terror" against microbes. Since they "kill off so much internal symbiotic microfauna along with pathogenic bacteria, antibiotics create changes" in the landscape of body ecology.

Resistant new diseases plaguing mankind now are directly linked to the "distorted internal landscape that antibiotics cause." Man needs to understand the necessity of bacteria in the holistic system of body ecology: bacteria teach the body how to respond to disease.

Humans are supposed to work with bacteria that co-evolved with them. The proper response to an infection should not be wholesale killing of the pathogen, but learning how to work with bacteria in the body in order to restore the body to its healthy ecology and immunity.

Buhner's words suggest that the crisis of infectious diseases must be the ground on which a new relationship between man and microbes, man and earth must be forged. Only then will end times prophecies of biological disasters serve humanity's need – making use of the time left to lay the foundations of a New Earth.
