Can Homeopathy Treat Swine Flu?

Time for the Health Service to Include Vibrational Medicine?

How Homeopathy Works as 'Vibrational Medicine' and Should be Included in Effective Treatment in a Swine Flu Epidemic.

Homeopathy has saved many lives during flu epidemics in the past. In 1918 there was a drastic influenza pandemic, known as Spanish Flu, which spread to nearly every part of the world. It is estimated that in a space of two years anywhere from 50 to 100 million people died of the disease.

Dr. Raymond Seidel, MD, HMD was ten years old when the epidemic broke out. He made up his mind to become a homeopathic doctor while working as a delivery boy for a local homeopath, saying, "I saw that the people who were taking aspirin were dying, about half those who were drinking a lot were dying, and those that received homeopathic remedies were living."

Statistics gathered at the time show that while flu patients treated by conventional physicians faced mortality rates of around 30 % patients treated with homeopathic remedies had a mortality rate of only 1.5%. (Ref: The New England Journal of Homeopathy Spring/Summer 1998)

Understanding how Homeopathic Remedies Work

There are numerous recorded, well-documented cases demonstrating the effectiveness of homeopathic treatment. The difficulty that Western doctors have is that the quantity of active substance contained in a homeopathic remedy is so minute as to be chemically undetectable. By the standards of allopathic medicine a homeopathic remedy contains nothing at all. In order to explain the efficacy of homeopathic remedies we have to open our minds to another way of looking at things.

Two Major Tenets of Homeopathy

There are two major tenets to homeopathy:

  • the law of ‘similars’ - like cures like. In the late 18th century the founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann observed that substances have the power to cure just those symptoms that they tend to produce. For example, if someone is manifesting symptoms similar to say those seen in lead poisoning, a little bit of lead will actually help to resolve those symptoms.
  • the ‘potentisation’ of remedies. This is the process by which homeopathic remedies are diluted, usually one part in a hundred, and then shaken (‘succussed’) then diluted again, and again. Paradoxically, with each dilution the remedy becomes more powerful, more highly ‘potentised’.

The greater mystery of homeopathy lies in the process of ‘potentisation’. If we dilute a remedy until there is no substance left, how can that remedy still be carrying a signal? One answer is that when we take water and place a small quantity of a substance in it, the water will pattern itself on the vibration of that substance. It is this patterning which is the homeopathic signal – a powerful transmission of the essence of a remedy. Homeopathy is ‘vibrational medicine’. Alternative medical practitioners use terms like ‘vibration’, ‘essence’ and ‘energy’, which are not yet scientifically measurable but provide an explanation for physical effects with no other cause.

The ‘Genus Epidemicus’ Restores Health

Today, if confronted with an epidemic of swine flu, the homeopaths would first work with the ‘law of similars’ to establish a ‘Genus Epidemicus’; a basic set of remedies relevant to the symptoms of the particular virus. Ideally, a homeopath prefers to take an individual case history to make a remedy tailored to the patient’s life circumstances. However, if the worst happens and the feared pandemic of swine flu becomes a reality then widespread administering of just the basic remedies of the ‘Genus Epidemicus’ could dramatically reduce the impact of the disease.

Recently a highly respected homeopath said to me, “We would welcome the opportunity to treat people with swine flu in order to reduce suffering and restore them to health quickly, effectively and safely.”

Holistic healing

Thinking in Western culture is notoriously ‘left-brain’, linear and rational whereas homeopathy heals holistically and intuitively, combining left-brain empirical knowledge with intuitive and compassionate understanding of a patient’s whole being.

In the face of a possible pandemic of swine flu, is it not time for national medical systems to open to the concept of ‘vibrational’ medicine and support the homeopaths to go out into the world and save lives?
