Review of Intention Heals

Adam the Healer and the Nature of Change

Sep 8, 2008 Mary Desaulniers

Adam the Healer's latest book, Intention Heals (Dreamhealer Inc., 2008) provides the necessary groundwork for changing subconscious beliefs.

Adam the Healer emerged into the spotlight six years ago when he performed a long-distance healing session on Ronnie Hawkins, the famous Canadian rock 'n roll musician, diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. By focusing healing energy on Hawkins 3000 miles away, Adam was able to dissolve his tumor. To this day, Hawkins is alive and cancer free.

Intention Heals is Adam's fourth book and a departure from his previous works in that it provides a workbook guide on healing that addresses not just symptoms but the genesis of illness: "Your health is much more than just your physical well-being. Change requires that you address everything that influences you and how you view your reality"(61). To this end, Intention Heals is an ambitious project aimed at helping readers understand the nature and scope of change. Three areas define the basis of change and healing through intention: rewiring cellular memories, re-writing the program of the subconscious mind and re-awakening a higher state of consciousness.

Change through the Rewiring of Cellular Memories

Citing the latest research in mind-body connection, Adam the Healer states that a growing body of evidence shows that emotions influence cellular memories and biology. Cellular memories are subconscious memories, created by years of habitual responses. Emotions trigger neurons to emit a particular frequency which in turn stimulates the release of biochemical correlates. Happiness triggers the release of serotonin and endorphins; stress stimulates the release of cortisol and epinephrine biochemicals. By using the workbook, readers can retrain their emotional reactions and responses to situations, thereby exercising control over the biochemical triggers in their bodies. Intention Heals provides a step by step guide to changing memories in mind and cells.

Change through Re-writing the Program of the Subconscious Mind

Changing cellular memory is the first step towards changing subconscious programming. The next step is using intention which is goal-based thinking to align subconscious responses with conscious programming. Adam states emphatically that rewriting the program of the subconscious mind depends on a sincere desire for change. It is not sufficient to go through the process of visualization without addressing the issues of past beliefs and perceptions.

This can be achieved using Part I of the workbook—"Building a Foundation for Visualization." Sincere intention aligns conscious awareness with subconscious thoughts and beliefs, "getting every cell working towards the same goal, on the same page, so to speak"(62). Adam's workbook exercises on changing limiting beliefs help readers with this process of alignment.

Change through Re-awakening a Higher State of Consciousness

Breathing awareness and meditation promote a higher state of consciousness. Intention Heals provides step by step instructions on deep breathing, designed to get maximum oxygen to every cell. Meditation quiets the mind for its entrance into stillness. Conscious intention to focus on the "now" will bring about relaxation and a state of heightened awareness. In this higher state of consciousness, one can reprogram the subconscious mind and bring about change by seeing and feeling a "new vision of self."

Intention Heals is a useful tool for self-empowerment. Its main drawback is that the book on its own is limited; it does not provide readers with complete access to healing through intention. Adam the Healer states that maximum benefit for one's healing journey requires access to his previous two books, DreamHealer 2 and The Path of the DreamHealer as well as his DVD, "Visualizations for Self-Empowerment," all of which contain exercises that are not included in Intention Heals.
