Foundation for Mind-Being ResearchOrganization Studies Interdisciplinary ConsciousnessThe Foundation for Mind-Being Research is building a learning community of scientists, artists, and seekers who are discovering and legitimizing new conceptions of truth.
The Foundation for Mind-Being Research is a source for interesting research from scientists who are studying consciousness. Although people report many experiences considered rare or unfounded scientifically, they are common enough to be taken seriously by scientists who do not dismiss the unusual by calling it only anecdotal. Instead, these pioneers are studying them. Their interests cover such varied topics as breaking through scientific convention, the energy components of biochemistry, the evolution of institutions, objective evidence for reincarnation, the beneficial effects of sound and music, and spirituality and healing research. The Foundation's by-line is: Where science & consciousness produce wisdom. The organization is described as a learning community of scientists, philosophers, artists, and seekers who are discovering and legitimizing new conceptions of truth. The association sponsors a monthly program offering to the public presentations by respected scientists working on the cutting edge of mind-being research. Scientist William Gough writes a monthly essay in their newsletter, often reflecting on the current state of consciousness in the world. In February 2007, Gough says, "The genie is out of the bottle," referring to attempts by the government to control instant communication. He doubts whether there will be any way to stem information that's available to individuals. In the March 2007 newsletter, Gough discusses the paradox of placebos, inactive substances given in place of drugs, which often produce significant improvement in the patient. "... placebos can be as powerful as the best modern medicine. Studies show that between 30 and 40 percent of patients report feeling better after taking dummy pills for conditions ranging from depression, to high blood pressure, to Parkinson's." Instead of denigrating the power of belief, there are scientists who are encouraging the study of why belief can accomplish so much. Gough also expresses amazement that placebos work for problems that are conventionally addressed by surgical intervention. In April, Gough brought up an old issue from the Atomic Energy Commission-controlled fusion power. In the late 60s, the scientists working on it were praised for their far seeing insights into the possibility of reducing any material to its basic elements, thus opening unlimited supplies for reuse. The concept was ahead of its time, before political pressure was looking for environmental alternatives and the current need for such implications on the developing world. Gough suggests that it's time to revisit the concept. Anyone with a scientific bent will find an intriguing collection of topics to explore at FMBR's website. Most people have experienced at some time unusual inner knowing relating to health and spiritual issues. Sometimes they describe it as direct contact with higher powers or the higher self, often resulting in increased understanding about the meaning and purpose of their life. This organization is a good place to start when a person does not trust their own anomalous experiences and finds comfort in the exploration of trained scientists.
