Throughout history, spirit guides have provided people with guidance, information, and insight. Guides can help anyone live a full, rich life.
Since ancient times, men and women believe they have contacted beings outside of themselves who guide their path in life. These beings are referred to as spirit guides. Some believe that spirit guides are angels or angelic beings. Others believe spirit guides to be friends from other dimensions or aliens. Psychologists are often quoted as saying that spirit guides are nothing more than people contacting their Higher Selves, or a part of themselves they could not access through regular means. No matter who or what spirit guides really are, contacting them yields insight and help in life. Spirit guides are generally thought of as entities that watch, heal, nurture and guide people towards their highest good. Spirit guides are said to never harm, nor do they possess individuals or guide people into danger. Most people who describe contact with spirit guides describe positive, although sometimes mysterious, interactions. Examples of Spirit Guides Spirit guides may appear as people, deceased relatives, angels, and animal guides. Many cultures believe in guides, and guides often assume forms within the context of cultural myths, such as animal guides and totem animals appearing to Native American mystics. Noted paranormal researcher Brad Steiger provides a classic example of meeting his spirit guide on his website in a section entitled "Revelation: The Divine Fire." While sleeping, he awoke to find a hooded, cowled figure in his room. The figure provided insight and direction on his life course. Later on, the figure returned at key times in his life to help him heal an illness and guide him on paths that led to greater fulfillment of his life destiny. Contacting Spirit GuidesMetaphysical tradition holds that spirit guides are always near, waiting to be contacted. Instructions on how to contact spirit guides demonstrate that contacting a guide is as easy as talking to a friend. Anyone involved in regular meditation may do this simple meditation to contact guides. Simply imagine yourself in a beautiful, natural environment, such as a forest, beach or wherever you feel most at home. Ask your spirit guide to meet you in this place and see what or who appears. Once the guide appears, ask its name. Begin dialoguing with the spirit guide. Chances are, he or she has a lot to share. Many teachers suggest invoking a brief prayer of protection before contacting a spirit guide to ensure that only positive, congenial spirits appear. Although guides themselves are positive entities, anyone entering a meditative state may be open to negative energies. These may masquerade as good energies until they begin suggesting bad things. Signs that responses are coming from a negative rather than a positive entity include suggestions that you give yourself over to the control of the entity, being told that you're special or magical, or hints that you'll be given special, esoteric information in exchange for your service. Contacting a spirit guide is not mediumship (contacting the dead). Rather, it is getting in touch with a friend, a companion, who has always been near and ready to help at a moment's notice.
