The crystal skull legends have long been a source of mystery. The most famous of these originates from the Mayans and the part they play in the doomsday prophecy of 2012.

The Mayans believed that around the third millenia BCE, after the Great Flood destroyed Atlantis, the survivors wished to preserve their wisdom. They shaped thirteen crystal skulls; nine were coloured and represented the races of men and four were as clear as glass to represent the beasts that walk, crawl, slide and fly. They were then sent to their place of "birth" until such a time when all are needed to avert the catastrophe that man will wreak on the planet. The human race, however, must be both morally and spiritually evolved to use this information.

Who Were the Mayans?

The Mayans themselves are shrouded in mystery; they flourished from 200 BCE until they disappeared in 900 BCE. No one knows for sure who or what wiped them out, but what is known is that they were a race of highly accomplished astronomers and mathematicians. The translations of the famous Dresden Codex, an ancient Mayan manuscript, show an extraordinarily accurate table of Venus and Mars progressions and formed the foundations of the Mayan calendar.

The Classic Maya

The classic Maya, (approximately 435 BCE - 30 BCE), were known as Supreme Masters of Time Magic and recorded a system of planetary and galactic time cycles. They believed that the Milky Way was the generator of life named "Hunab k'u" and transmitted energy through the stars. These served as lenses and transmitted the energy to the planets. The sun, "kin" is the chief mediator of Hunab k'u for our planetary system. They had no mythical concept of deities and believed that Lords represented the forces of nature. They were pioneers in the mathematical concept of "zero" and depicted this in the form of an eye. This had great spiritual implications as it represented, amongst other things, the essence of the beginning.

The Mayan Calendar

They set their time into "ages" of 5,125 years each. According to the legend, each of the ages ended in a cataclysm that destroyed races of men: fire, earthquake, storm and flood. Atlantis was destroyed at the end of the fourth age. The end of the fifth age, however, will be different, because it is also the end of an "era". An era lasts about 26,000 years, each one begins and ends when the sun lies over the Galactic Centre at 28 degrees of Sagittarius, known to the Mayans as Xibalba be - the Road to the Underworld. The end of the fifth and final stage will be a cataclysm caused by man; nuclear war, global warming, etc. According to the Dresden Codex, the Myans set their calendar with a "zero date" of 11th August 3114 BCE and recorded that the end of the fifth age is 21st December 2012.

The Mayans were a race of highly gifted astronomers and mathematicians. Their legend told of 13 crystal skulls that would avert the catastrophe that man would cause. Using their knowledge of planetary and galactic progressions, the Mayans were able to record a time and date for this event - winter solstice, 21st December 2012.
