The subconscious mind has stored every moment of a person's life. Old unhealthy beliefs can prevent a person from achieving their highest potential. This book shows how.
At what moment does a person comprehend how much of life is self-created? Greg Braden’s powerful book, The Spontaneous Healing of Belief considers the role of a person’s beliefs on his or her entire lived experience. The power of this concept is remarkable. Beliefs as a Computer Program and the Mind-Body Continuum Braden postulates that a person’s belief system plays out in their life like a giant computer program. He goes so far as to tell readers that they are the architects of their own lives. Memory is explored as a hologram in which each piece of the picture mirrors the whole. Braden refers to Karl Piphrams’s studies in the 1970s which conclude that memories are stored throughout the body. Are Subconscious Beliefs Running the Program?Throughout the book, the idea that beliefs create reality is put forward. Braden suggests that the subconscious mind has stored every moment of a person’s life. It is always running, and a good thing it is, because if a person had to be conscious of making the heart beat, the lungs suck in air, the cells process the oxygen, etc., the human would probably cease to exist. The subconscious mind is referred to as body wisdom by other practitioners such as Deepak Chopra and Brandon Bays. Most Beliefs Formed Before the Age of SevenSince most of a person’s beliefs are formed at a very early age, it is intriguing to consider what they are and how they are running a person’s life. The key to healthy living or living in freedom is to uncover the limiting beliefs that are stored in the body/mind and to release those beliefs. Finding the Subconscious BeliefsPositive beliefs rarely cause problems, according to Braden. It is the limiting, negative beliefs that haunt a person and play out in unhealthy and ultimately limiting ways in the present moment. For instance, Braden invites the reader to participate in an exercise describing the characteristics they would assign to their childhood caregiver, male or female. This exercise is done as a group and the results of the exercise are shared out loud. The consistently remarkable result is that the groups often describe the same characteristics. These characteristics can include such adjectives as:
These characteristics are embedded in the subconscious mind and create certain persuasive beliefs about relationships. They can certainly play out in love relationships being triggered by even seemingly unrelated situations. Left unexamined, these limiting beliefs about what love looks like may cause a person to doubt and mistrust a romantic partner. Healing From Limiting BeliefsBraden offers the reader substantial evidence that limiting beliefs run an unhealthy program in a person’s life. He challenges the reader to rewrite the program based on what they would want or desire from life. Uncovering and letting go of old beliefs is the key.
