Contemporary interpretation of Gnosticism places this alternative spirituality within a political and extraterrestrial arena.
The Gnostics were considered “enlightened beings” in pre-Christian times. The word “Gnostics” is derived from “gnosis” which literally means “knowledge,” specifically knowledge of the divinity within man. Gnostics believed that knowledge was an active and redeeming power helping man break away from enslavement by the world. Gnostics also viewed the kundalini serpent guarding the Tree of Knowledge as a force of salvation, a spiritual ally of man. Contemporary interpretation of Gnosticism has given this alternative spirituality a political and extraterrestrial turn. Resurrected by researcher and writer John Lamb Lash, the Gnostics are seen not as a rejected branch of Christianity but part of the pre-Christian Shamanic tradition. Essentially Lash has resurrected the largely anti-Christian material in Gnostic texts that were censored by the Christian Church. He has made the Gnostics a central part of a new discipline, Exopolitics, in which capitalist economics is seen as a subversive ideology designed by malevolent extraterrestrials to divert man from divine consciousness. The Aeons and the ArchonsIn applying these recovered censored materials to the contemporary scene, Lash describes modern man as one caught between two forms of consciousness—the Aeons and the Archons. Aeons are the creative impulse in extraterrestrial consciousness that seeded the universe with life and wisdom. Sophia (Wisdom) was an Aeon that gave birth to man and the inherent divinity within him. Archons are soul-less extraterrestrials that have manipulated humanity towards self-serving greed; this was engineered deliberately to prevent man from reaching his divine potential. In modern terms, Aeons are spiritually conscious extraterrestrials that want to bring humanity to spiritual awakening. The Archons are manipulative earth-bound entities that have thwarted the revelation of man’s encounter with Aeons in order to prevent the spiritual awakening of man. Exopolitics and Organized ReligionsAccording to Lash, Gnostics view Earth as a microcosm of a cosmic God which Archons have replaced with false gods, represented by organized religions. Lash traces the origins of these false gods to the infiltration of Archons into Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Gnostics considered Abraham, the iconic Patriarch of these three organized religious systems to be a “dupe,” part of what Gnostics referred to as the “doctrine of the aliens.” Lash exposes Christianity as a form of extraterrestrial manipulation intended to destroy the innate spirituality of man by subjecting him to the enslavement of “blind faith” and dependence on an external source for salvation. Exopolitics and Organized Authority SystemsBy extension, Lash argues that “the doctrine of the aliens” has been deployed in Western Governments, militaries and corporate empires. He views such systems as dangerous because they are motivated by self-serving agenda. The “War on Terror,” for example, is an Archonic enterprise designed to protect the interests of Capitalist Elites. Secular Western Civilization, rooted in genocidal wars of oppression and exploitation like the Inquisition, is linked by Lash to the subversive influences of malevolent extraterrestrials. He considers ideological programs such as Materialism and Global Capitalism to be the mind control tactics of Archons intent on destroying man and the planet earth. While Lash’s interpretation of Gnosticism departs from the norm, his vision challenges man to search for knowledge without blinders. Only by eliminating the burden of tradition in his search can man reclaim the power of personal truth and divinity.
