» Jolinda - Pagan soldiers: Right to identify?
In response to Pagan soldiers: Right to identify? posted by hawknut:From the perspective of those who are appealing the VA (and the estimated 1900 currently enlisted wiccans), the frustrating thing is that an official, once and for all, actual denial has not been issued.
The response has been "pending", or the groups who are appealing have been asked to fill out another set of paperwork and provide additional documentation about the history of the symbol. This has been going on back and forth for nine years. Nine years! Meanwhile, other religious symbols are approved left and right. If they let Eckankar be approved, there's really very little ground to stand on to deny anyone, it would seem (no disrespect to Eckankar intended - I think they have some fascinating ideas).
Ultimately, I don't think this is about religion, (for the VA, at least) but rather about playing the game of politics.
