Her work is not well-respected in all circles. In fact, she goes much further than many liberal biblical critics, including Bart Ehrman (who is agnostic and who wrote Misquoting Jesus). Pagels is also a feminist (I think that's fair to say), which makes it ironic that she believes a great wrong was done for the Gospel of Thomas to be excluded from the biblical canon. The Gospel of Thomas is pretty sexist.
