» Migisi - Spiritualist a personal definition
In response to Spiritualist a personal definition posted by pink101:
One of the most recent was this doctrine that God wants everyone to be wealthy. (What is that doctrine called? It escapes me right now. But, there is a word for it.)
.
I call it 'profit-sy', but others call it the 'Health and Wealth Gospel' or 'Prosperity' preaching. A lot of televangelists use it. Basically, they say give a dollar, you get blessed in kind seven fold. Have you experienced your blessing yet, Pink? (wink)

I have a close friend who's a head server at a nice restaurant. Once a year, she works the banquet for Chicago Catholic Dioceses Conference. The donations poor Catholics give every Sunday - which are supposed to go to the poor parish schools/churches and Catholic charities? Well, it goes right into the bellies of the Cardinal, bishops, and monsignors. My friend reported the evening conference for 50 elite church leaders cost $17,000+! That's $340+ per. (BTW, most was spent on booze.) My ol' Irish Catholic granny used to say about priests - 'Put a beggar on horseback and he'll ride to the devil'! If you're not familiar, this means one who's been made arrogant and corrupt through achieving wealth and luxury. My granny pegged em.
.
Ever been in a big Catholic cathedral? The wealth of the RC church is obscene.

In response to Beggars and thieves posted by Migisi:Then my mother went to work a few years later at the age of 15 and she has spent a life trying to understand what happened to her when she was young. Yep the RC church served her well...
You know she looks after my grandma now and holds no regrets... Now that is someone who learned how to serve others without expectation! And she did not go to church every Sunday and play the part either. She lived life and did the best she knew how and taught me to stand up for myself.
Some folks here may think I am a "dead beat" well all the power to them... Those same folks have a grandchild who is also disabled and poor pity that child if that is their attitude...
This so-called "dead beat" gave what she could to the church she attended and quite frankly my tithes before you count the readings was well into $80-100 a month if you consider the cost of the transportation to get there. I was attending 3 times a week on average if not more! Then you look at the 20% for readings and never mind the hours I spent on the web and off promoting the church and the personal friends I brought to church events!
Yep now I know why my mother kept her spirituality in her own way and never bothered with churches!
Yes Migisi, I have been in a big Catholic cathedral but they are not the only ones who are out for the money. They have just been doing it longer than some of the Alternative Faiths and so have had the chance to amass the wealth! Every religion will have its day I am sure!

Mat 6:24
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

In response to Wonders posted by spiritalk:Guilt no J.... but honesty would be a nice change! You run down the New Age for making money when you are motivated by the vary same thing as a Spiritualist Minister.
I never said I did not need to make money you were the one who made a big deal about the fact that SOME PEOPLE ARE ACCRUING GREAT WEALTH and blame the New Age for that even though Spiritualism itself has as checkered a history! Why is it ok for you to make money in the name of Spiritualism and not ok for those in the New Age movement to make money?
and you say:
"Someone who acknowledges themselves as 'new age' accepts any and all random theories that pass along the path of literature and/or belief. There is no grounding base that says this is too far out or in. It just accepts.
There is no platform to promelgate [sic] their message, but are not shy to use another group's resources for this purpose.
God bless, J"

Seems to me your problem is you don't like someone else cutting in on your piece of the pie. But to be frankly honest, most of the New Age folks I have met were outside the Spiritualist Church at other events where you were trying to promote your church and none of them tried to stop you from selling your gig!
You more than promoted your church for free on the meetup.com site without paying for use of the platform. Again it is ok for you to promote your church anywhere you want but you get upset when they come to the door and want to use your platform?
Sounds hypocritical to me...
